Healthier Relationship with Minola

Coconut oil has a multitude of health benefits, which include but are not limited to skin care, hair care, improving digestion and immunity against a host of infections and diseases. The oil is used not just in tropical countries, where coconut plantations are abundant, but also in the US and the UK. People are discovering the wonders this oil can create and it is again gaining popularity throughout the world. Let us see how many of these benefits you are aware of.

Coconut oil is one of the richest sources of saturated fat you can find, with around 90% of calories as saturated fat.

Saturated fat was unfairly demonized a few decades ago by a few biased but highly influential scientists. However, new studies show that there is no association between saturated fat and heart disease.

The initial studies on coconut oil that supposedly demonstrated that it was unhealthy used refined and hydrogenated coconut oil that contained trans fats.

These studies have no relevance to the unrefined, organic, virgin coconut oil that is commonly found in health food stores today

Minola prides itself on its strict quality standards; its Minola Cooking Oil is one of the leading brands of coconut oil in the Philippines.
The use of Coconut oil has become a popular trend in the early years but in the mid 1980’s to early 2000s, a study revealing Coconut oil as unhalthy and causes heart diseases was widely accepted by the general public. Coconut products then suffered a lot and for many years use of coconut oil is considered harmful because of the fats and cholesterol derived from it.
It is only in recent years that the study is proven wrong. This is also the period when Coconut Oil is praised for its versatility. It has many uses and can be used for baking, skin moisturising, speeding up wound healing , increasing hydration for dry skin and of course its main use – frying food. As a superfood, coconut oil can boost metabolism and the saturated fats we used to consider unhealthy is in fact a safe source of energy for humans.

Dr. Dayrit’s presentation is an eye-opener. I learned that some oil when put under too much heat creates chemical that is harmful to our body. He also expounded on Coconut oil many health benefits because it contains and is rich in fatty acid called Lauric Acid.
As deep fried food have become our staple, at home or our favorite restaurant, what oil we use is important. We need to know that there are various types of oils for various methods of cooking. For deep frying, oil with saturated fats is best cooking.
Here’s a basic fact: Coconut oil – being a saturated fat – is capable of withstanding fiercer temperatures, making it useful oil for cooking. When it comes to high heat cooking, coconut oil is your best choice. Since the fatty acids in it are saturated, this makes it very resistant to heat.
Overall, eating fried food at home certainly does not have to be unhealthy. What we need is the type of oil you will use and how Minola Cooking Oil is your best choice. Use it so that #HealthierAngRelationship. To know more about Minola like, share and read more about them on Facebook.

A Pocketful of Hugs

Just like any other mom I’m always on the lookout for healthy snacks for my kids. I want to be healthy and filling and affordable is always a plus. So I was excited when Gardenia sent me a small box so my kids can try it.

Even our cat wanted to get into the action. As much as he wanted to taste it my kids wouldn’t allow him to do so.

Just like any typical siblings my kids love to play but their kind of play is different from other kids I guess it’s because of their age difference. My son has a hard time with games that require him to run and my daughter doesn’t like games that would make her sweat. I also discourage my kids from playing with gadgets so i think the claw machine game is perfect medium.

After a challenging game they rest and enjoy their new found snack which Pocketful Sandwich from Gardenia which comes in two variants Chocolate and Peanut Butter.

For me the best part aside from the taste is that they already removed the corners of the bread. My kids don’t even like that and I always have to cut it out whenever they want bread and who is the unwilling victim who has to eat it? Of course.Who else but yours truly…

Mc Donald’s Mushroom Pepper Steak

Finally, McDonald’s Philippines is now serving its very first burger steak meal: the all-new Mushroom Pepper Steak. Dense, relatively thick burger patties covered in a thick, creamy, savory white sauce stippled with black pepper..

I’ve been seeing McDonald’s New Mushroom Pepper Steak on TV commercials and it was quite hard to ignore. It definitely got my attention. I got an invitation to attend the launch and I just had to grow and it made me crave for rice.

During the launch McDo’s Mushroom Pepper Steak smelled terrific and it did not disappoint. McDonald’s sauce was a pleasant surprise for us. It was creamy and delivered on its peppery promise with a strong but not overpowering black pepper kick. The mushrooms went well with it, too. Although, they didn’t necessarily add much to the overall flavor of the sauce. The amount of sauce was just right. The meat wasn’t drowning in it, but we didn’t find it lacking, either.
The beef patties are thick and meaty. The sauce is as promised — creamy, peppery, and seasoned just right. The pepper gives it a touch of heat which nicely cuts the sauce’s richness. The mushrooms, of course, complement it nicely.

McDonald’s Mushroom Pepper Steak is a great addition to their menu, giving everyone who’s not in the mood for the usual McDo offerings a delicious option. In addition, it’s budget friendly too. A 1-pc meal costs P55 and a 2-pc meal costs P89.

Herbalife Family Foundation gives back to the SOS Children’s Village

Herbalife Family Foundation brings festive cheer to over 200 children at the SOS Children’s Village In the Philippines
To cap off an eventful year, Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF) visited two of its beneficiary organizations under, SOS Children’s Village, to bring the festive cheer to over 200 children. During the visits, HFF Philippines held activities, which brought fun and joy and left big smiles on the children’s faces.

As part of the activities, Herbalife donated a total of 250 books to the Batangas and Bataan Villages of SOS through the CASA Herbalife Program, the flagship project of HFF. The books were given by Herbalife independent members and guests via a month-long book collection program organized by Herbalife Philippines, and benefitted 245 children from the villages.

Barbette Soliven, Corporate Communications Manager at Herbalife Philippines and the lead organizer of the activities said, “Ever since we started these visits enabled by the CASA Herbalife program, we have strived to make it a more engaging experience for both the volunteers and the kids. I’m heartened to see that we have achieved that this time round, and am glad to see the smiles on the childrens’ and volunteers’ faces at the end of the day.”

Herbalife distributors, executives and volunteers also spent two consecutive Saturdays (November 26 and December 3) at the SOS facilities in Lipa, Batangas and Mariveles, Bataan, where they spent time interacting with and playing with the children.

One of the key highlights was the Ultimate Frisbee Clinic organized by Herbalife Philippines, where the children were taught the basics of the sport, before culminating in a scrimmage game played together with the volunteer team. The eventual winning team was applauded by all the participants, and won themselves a Herbalife T-shirt and a Frisbee each.
“We are very grateful to all the Members who have supported the activities and took time to be with us; as well as the young volunteers who joined us in teaching these kids the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, ” Barbette Soliven added.

SOS Children’s Village has been a recipient of the CASA Herbalife program for six years now. In 2016, grants from HFF were used to conduct supplementary feeding programs and provide nutrition education at targeted locations within the Philippines, benefitting 609 children below the age of 12 in 24 communities.

First established in the United States in 2005, the CASA Herbalife Program aims to improve the lives of children around the world by bringing good nutrition to those living in orphanages, attending after-school centers, and other non-profit facilities.
